Post Exam Summary Spring 2023

CAS mentioned that some candidates had a hard time describing the BC auto regulatory system, which is cover by the KPMG Regulatory Oversight paper. But in the syllabus, it said that BC simplified guidelines are excluded. Are these two contracting or I am missing something?

Comments

  • No? It is just saying that you don't need to know the simplified filing guidelines -> But page 23 which is what they are referring to is completely fair game

I can't seem to find the KPMG Regulatory Oversight paper online. Do you have the link for it?

  • This reading is not available online. It is only available in printed form from the CAS. You have to order it on the CAS website and it has to then be physically mailed to you from the CAS office in the U.S.

  • do you have a screen shot of how page 23 look like?

  • It isn't permitted to reproduce the page digitally, but it basically says the following:

    • Auto insurance in BC is a combination of government-mandated rates and open competition.
    • The Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC) is a provincial crown corporation and provides "Basic Autoplan" which includes" 3rd party liability, accident benefits, underinsured motorist protection, uninsured motorist protection
    • Open competition is offered through ICBC and private insurers and provides extended coverages such as: extended 3rd party liability, excess underinsured motorists protectioncollision, comprehensive, specified perils

That's about it. It's less than a page.

And here is an online article that explains BC auto insurance pretty well (not on syllabus but a little more detailed than the syllabus reading):
