Ranking Table Clarification

Hi, I'm studying for this exam for the second time and noticed the ranking table format is quite different, so please let me know if I'm understanding the ranking correctly:
1. The only guidance on weight of the material is that C-65%, B-15%, A-20%. So basically the order of the papers in the ranking table looks to be grouped by section/subsection but ordered arbitrarily. The reason I infer it this way is that section B (15% weight) is near the bottom of the page which can't be of less weight than all the other sections above it.
2. In the 'quiz bank' section of the main page, the readings are also ranked from 1-63. I am wondering if the ranking there up to date? I noticed for example that landmark cases are ranked 47 on that page which is quite low - it used to be in the first section when I wrote the exam for the first time a couple of years back.

Thanks!

Before providing my full answer below, note that when you are in the wiki area, there is a list of readings in the left sidebar that kinda sorta corresponds to the old rankings. You can use that to get a sense for which readings are particularly important.

You are correct that the ranking table is now different than before. Since exams are no longer being released, I can no longer create a table showing "points-per-reading" for each syllabus reading. And the syllabus has changed so much that the old rankings just didn't make sense any more.

Also, the new content outline (which used to be called the syllabus) provides much less detailed information on the weights of various topics so we were forced to completely reorganize the ranking table.

The BA system requires a rank be assigned to each reading but the rank is less useful now. The legal cases are still very important however, which is why there is a separate link on the main page that shows all the legal cases on their own, but it wasn't possible to give them a "proper" ranking within the system. That's why the readings in the ranking table are listed by section rather than by importance now.

It seems that the CAS doesn't really want you to know which readings are tested heavily and which are tested only lightly, aside from in a very general sense. (We know that IFRS 17 is tested very heavily, and probably still the legal cases as well.)

  • Thanks for the insight!
