'on battle day'

Will you be creating a 'on battle day' prep like you did with previous sittings? i.e. topics that are likely/unlikely, a sample perhaps?

  • Actually, I stopped trying to make such specific predictions in the On BattleDay article because it seemed almost random whether or not I got it right. But there still are a lot of things that are predictable about the exam, for example:

    • The ordering of the questions: If you look at the BattleTables in the wiki, you'll see that the questions for each reading usually appear around the same place. For example, the McDonald and Baer readings are almost always either question 1 or 2. And the calculation questions are usually from around 13-20. Knowing this helps with time management.
    • The Top Questions feature is a great way to review questions that are likely to appear. For example, there will always be a question asking you to calculate the excess(deficiency) ratio from CCIR.ARinstr. And there is a 100% chance there will be questions from each of the top 12 readings.
    • Sometimes I do have a prediction for a specific question, but I discuss it in the actual wiki article. For example, in the Marshall.Benefits article on Ontario auto insurance, I mentioned that comparing BC and ON would be a good question, and I got that one right! It appeared on the 2018.Fall exam, but I do recognize that I won't get it right all the time. That was a case where it just seemed obvious that would be a good question.

In general, when I read the source readings I always try to think about what would be a good question. Then I include that material in the wiki and make a few BattleCards so my predictions are already embedded in the content.

I know that isn't the answer you wanted. One prediction I might make is that they'll ask something from CIA.Models. That's a new reading, and they asked questions from the other 3 new readings last time, so CIA.Models should be due to come up. If I were taking the exam again, I'd make sure I knew that one pretty well.

  • This is actually very helpful, thanks!

  • Another question I thought of was whether you had any thoughts on the likelihood of the exam featuring a large amount of questions (i.e. identify style questions) that have never appeared on previous exams? Is it possible they flip the exam on its head without changing the syllabus?

  • YW! Oh, and I forgot to mention the practice exam I created. That also has implicit predictions. You can get that here:

  • Yes, I found the practice exam quite helpful in identifying my weaker areas. Thanks!
