pure no fault and public auto insurance

Hi,

are all public auto systems also pure no-fault? In wiki I see that Manitoba and Quebec have a pure no-fault system, what about BC and SK?
what does pure no fault system mean exactly? it's only relating to the fact whether we can sue the driver at fault for bodily injury? collision coverage still exist in a pure no fault system (like QC), but collision is triggered depending on whether the insured is at fault or not, why do we call this a pure no fault system?

  • BC and SK have a hybrid system with no fault and tort. No fault system just refers to the system in which claims are handled. If you are involved in an accident, your insurer will pay out compensation regardless of whether you are at fault or not. In a tort system, either you or your insurer would go after the tortfeasor (at fault party) for compensation. In a pure no fault system you can’t ever sue another driver – or their insurance company – for pain and suffering or for economic losses. In the other provinces, you can sue for economic losses that are over the threshold set by that province.
