Employer Contribution to Provincial/Private Health Insurance

Hi,

The battle quiz says it is Taxable for the Employer Contribution to Provincial Health Insurance, whereas it is NOT Taxable (except Quebec) for Employer Contribution to Private Health Insurance. Taxable means liable to Pay Tax.

So I am wondering whether there are particular reasons why Private no need to pay tax on the Contribution.

Thanks and Warm Regards,
Wilson

  • It's to help citizens afford coverage. I don't think there's much more to it

  • can the employer opt for all private health insurance so contributions are not taxable?

  • It's probably way more expensive to go the full private route although nothing in the source prohibits it
