For the other cases, it seems quite intuitive how the decisions would affect either directly or indirectly the insurance industry.

What are the consequences on the insurance industry of this decision?

    I just assumed that cities buy insurance for just these sorts of situations but I don't know for sure. If that's the case then Sudbury's insurer would have had to pay. Or maybe the plaintiff's auto insurer didn't want to pay the medical expenses and were trying to sue the city.

  • So probably landmark because it opens the door for social inflation with people bringing forth similar complaints toward cities, and insurers should be aware of this risk when insuring cities.?
