In the battlecard, the definition is defined as liability. But give DPAE = blah blah + UEcommission; wouldn't it be recognized as asset as well?

You haven't earned the commission yet, so it's a liability. Once it's earned I think you can recognize it as ceded commission income
Suomi is right. Same logic as to why Unearned premium is also a liability
