  • There is no UPR for AY 2014 in CY 2017 though? I assumed the II from UPR for AY 14 happened in 2014, so I needed the investment yield in 2014 and used an average of beginning and ending UPR for that year. Does that make sense?
  • Hi Graham, I know this is very last minute, but aren't we making a mistake by using the CY 2017 annual yield of 3% to calculate the investment income from UPR, which happened in 2014? I used the information in the triangles to get the CY 2014 yie…
  • Hi Graham, I used the solution giving 15%, but I applied the 90% quota share to get 13.5% because that's what the reinsurer would have as a deficit. Does that make sense? Thanks,
  • Hi Graham, Basically it looks like the CAS is doing it a different way than in your solution. In Spring 2019 Q18, EPR is deducted from ERC, and then added back in for the ER calculation. Can you clarify that? Thanks,
  • Hi Graham, Why are we not using the usual (APV(NU.beg)-APV(NU.end)-Paid.all)/APV(NU.beg)) formula? I get a ratio of 0.56%. I thought the difference between undiscounted and discounted excess ratio was only the the II term on the numerator? We are…
  • Hi, Tbh I should have thought about it a bit more before posting. This makes total sense. Thanks!
  • Hi all, For whatever it's worth, I believe that the removal of Appendix B simply means that we don't need to know by heart the details of those specific 9 major risk categories. That doesn't mean we can forget about adverse scenarios, ripple effe…
  • Hi Graham, Is it just me or we are using the total liabilities instead of the net liabilities to calculate the Overall Net Leverage in this problem? Matter of fact, we couldn't calculate the net liabilities with the information given. Do we just …
  • Hi Graham, Went and looked back at this case this morning. Is it just me or that ruling is giving an opportunity for insureds to remove the insurers subrogation rights? I don't know how I feel about that ruling. Thoughts? Thanks,
  • Hi Graham, I think you will agree with me that this is a poorly asked question eh? Why would they give us aggregate limit and deductible if they only assume 1 loss? Regardless, I still have a hard time deciding if risk transfer happened. We d…
  • Hi Graham, What is the difference between Prior Approval and File & Use? The line seems to be thin there. Is it just that for Prior Approval, rate changes might be refused, while File & Use is more casual? Thanks,
  • Hi again Graham, I have another question regarding that problem. The examiner's report used the MARKET value to weight the yield along with the duration, rather than the BOOK value. Is this an error? Thanks,
  • Hi Graham, At the same time, why would it be unfair for the giant company to avoid participation in the RSP? In general, the idea behind insurance is for everyone to pay their fair share. I guess RSP is different in that regard? I just don't get …
  • Got you. Just to make sure, we are talking about Fall2018 Q6, not Q16 right?
  • I agree 100% with what you said. I'll take these metrics with a grain of salt. If it were up to me though, I'd use the beginning equity, just because I can translate into simple words that it means (You have a certain equity at the beginning of the …

  • You're the man, thank you so much.
  • Hi Graham, Just to summarize some of the things that are going on here: * Actuarial Present Value Ultimate = Discounted Ultimate? * We are using discounted unpaid to calculate Investment Income? * What is the difference between discounted …
  • Hi Graham, Where in the question does it say that the claims will be paid out evenly over 3 years? Do we have to assume that it is asset-liability matched with the bonds portfolio? Is it something we should always assume unless specified otherwise?…
  • Hi Graham, when you talk about "The reinsurer also has to pay the primary insurer an agreed upon price to take the claims back", is that what the margin is? Thanks!
