one other question... in ontario if I get into an at-fault accident and I have injuries... then I will claim from my own insurer under accident benefits .. and if I cause injuries to a third party.. then if they sue me for the cost of their injurie…

I should add that I know the formula for PV factor = (PV + int rate PFAD)/undisc estimate but what is the logic behind adding int rate PFAD to the numerator?
-
if we assume that the # of uninsured and underinsured drivers are small... then for DCPD claims... wont the insurer pretty much get entirely reimbursed for these claims from the at-fault driver's insurer?
-
So my understanding is that DCPD was introduced to make transactions and access to benefits quicker since you can go through your own insurer. Since DCPD is a third party coverage, their insurer will get recoveries from the insurer of the at-fault d…

can you expand a bit more on this.. say I accidently crash into person X... both of us have damage to our cars... I will claim damage under collision coverage and person X will claim under DCPD or TPL-PD ?
-
sorry one more question here... does regular property damage coverage exist in a tort province? or is that replaced with dcpd
-
ahh I see, understood now. Thanks!

So either CSM or LC is zero for a given set of contracts correct? One of them must always be zero. If this is the case, it seems similar to DPAC and premium deficiency under IFRS4. Do you agree?
-
ah I did not know that! thank you
-
Yes I agree, they do come naturally. Thanks!
-
Sorry I have a type in my post above, I am referring to part a.iv of this question. Total CI = NI + OCI - Dividends We are trying to isolate for OCI using the information given correct?
-
ok, and one more question here: net income include uw income + inv income + other income comprehensive inc = net income + OCI can you confirm that 'other income' and OCI and two distinct items? as in, there is no overlapping between them corre…
-
that was my hunch.. makes sense. thanks!
-
To that point - why is prior approval a more expensive method of rate regulation compared the say "file & use" or "use & file"?
-
ok good to know! Thank you!
-
So is it correct to say that change in AOCI = OCI for a specific accounting period?
-
How is OCI different from AOCI?
-
This was exactly the response I needed. Thank you!!

On my second question, the ELR is not given in the problem. Prem liab = UEP - DPAC. Which means they've assumed ELR=100% correct?
-
The question does not provide the discount rate. The solution calculates the portfolio yield to discount the liabilities. Is the calculation of the portfolio yield something we would be required to know for this upcoming sitting?
-
Hi Graham, For part a, why do we subtract DPAC from UPR to get premium liabilities? This is the formula I have for prem liab: prem liab = net apv + future re cost + maintenance exp +CPC I understand that DPAC is an asset and so it makes sen…

This was my calculation: LOC limit = min (2200, 0.3x(5000+3000)) = 2200 D = (5000+3000+500) - (0+8500+2200) = -2200 CapReq = (5000+3000)x0.15 - max(0,-(-2200)) = -1000 Ofcourse, a negative CapReq does not make sense, but why are my steps incor…

thats very clear, thank you!

great website! thank you so much!!

So in a province that is non-tort, are you able to sue the negligent driver or not? Also, why is DCPD considered third part liability if the insurer pays you whether its at-fault or not? For example, let's say I get into an accident that is my fa…

thank you - that makes sense now!

Hi Graham, I am having trouble understanding how to use this table. Specifically pop quiz b in the wiki - do you mind to explain say for scenario 1, how the rating is "strongest"?
-
Hi Graham, If the piece you refer to above has been removed from the syllabus... how can we know how to calculate OCI?
-
very clear now thank you

For part a, when we calculate the %emergence in 2017 from AY2015... shouldnt we do this: (0.75-0.50)/(1-0.50) = 50%. However the solutions show: (1-0.75)/(1-0.75) ?
